The return of a recent champion to Survivor's landmark 50th season has sent ripples of skepticism through the cast! Many are questioning why a player who just clinched the million-dollar prize is back for more.
As the highly anticipated 50th season of Survivor gears up for its premiere in May 2025, the show's host and executive producer, Jeff Probst, unveiled the full roster of contestants on CBS Mornings. This special season, aptly named "In the Hands of the Fans," is set to feature a star-studded lineup of beloved past players.
With the premiere date of February 25th fast approaching, some of the cast members have been candid with People magazine about their thoughts on their fellow competitors. When the question of who surprised them most with their return was posed, one name kept surfacing: Kyle Fraser.
Fraser, as you might recall, was the victor of season 48, securing the $1 million prize in a decisive 5-2-1 jury vote.
"Kyle, why? You just won yesterday!" exclaimed Cirie Fields, a four-time Survivor player. "The ink ain't even dry on your check yet. What are you trying to prove, Kyle? That makes you public enemy No. 1 for me."
It seems Fields isn't alone in her surprise. Two of Fraser's fellow contestants from season 48 also expressed their less-than-thrilled reactions to his inclusion.
"I am upset that Jeff did not disclose [that Kyle was returning] when he asked me, ‘Do you want to come play 50?’” shared Kamilla Karthigesu, who secured fourth place in season 48.
Joe Hunter echoed this sentiment, humorously describing his feelings to People: "It's like I was on national television, and Kyle gave me a wedgie, and then Kamilla came up and pulled it over my head...I won't come after them, but how could I trust them?"
For those new to the game, Survivor is a thrilling reality competition where a group of contestants, often divided into tribes based on a season's theme, are stranded in a remote location. Their mission is to survive by building essential shelters and foraging for food, all while engaging in a series of mentally and physically demanding challenges. Each week, the contestants vote each other out until only one remains, earning the coveted title of Sole Survivor and a $1 million prize.
Another intriguing addition to the Survivor 50 cast is Mike White, the acclaimed creator of the hit series The White Lotus. White previously tested his survival skills on season 37, aptly titled "David vs. Goliath." This season pitted the underdogs of the David tribe against the seemingly more advantaged Goliath tribe. White ultimately finished in second place, earning three jury votes, while Nick Wilson was crowned the Sole Survivor with seven votes.
Jeff Probst himself recalled White's persistent desire to return: "Mike, after he finished playing, said, ‘I want to play again.’ When White Lotus hit, and I thought, ‘Well, he’ll never play again.’ But he kept texting and saying, ‘Look, I’m serious. If you ever do anything where you have returning players, I want to play again.’ So we’re happy to have Mike.”
