A disturbing incident has surfaced involving Atlanta Falcons rookie James Pearce Jr., who is accused of a terrifying series of actions against WNBA player Rickea Jackson, culminating in a police chase and his own arrest. This alleged event, detailed in a criminal complaint obtained by ESPN, paints a picture of a volatile encounter that could have had far more severe consequences.
But here's where it gets controversial... The allegations suggest a pattern of harassment that escalated dramatically. According to Jackson, who plays for the Los Angeles Sparks, she noticed Pearce's white Lamborghini SUV following her on a Saturday morning. When she stopped at a red light, Pearce reportedly exited his vehicle and attempted to open her car door. This is the point where the situation began to spiral, with Jackson accelerating away and heading towards the Doral Police Department.
And this is the part most people miss... Pearce, rather than disengaging, re-entered his own vehicle and continued the pursuit. During the drive towards the police station, Jackson claims Pearce intentionally rammed her car from behind with his SUV. The alleged aggression didn't stop there. As Jackson neared the police station, Pearce is accused of cutting her off and then using his car to collide head-on with hers when she tried to reverse and escape. Photographs of Jackson's vehicle reportedly corroborate her account, showing damage consistent with her description.
When Doral police officers arrived, they witnessed Pearce standing by his open SUV. Despite being ordered to the ground at gunpoint, Pearce allegedly retreated into his vehicle, locked the doors, and drove off, striking an officer in the knee in what the affidavit describes as an intentional attempt to evade arrest. The chase continued until Pearce crashed his SUV at an intersection, after which he fled on foot and resisted apprehension.
Pearce was subsequently arrested and faces several felony charges, including aggravated battery with a deadly weapon (his vehicle), aggravated stalking, and aggravated battery of a law enforcement officer. He was later released on a $20,500 bond. The affidavit also details that Pearce was triaged on scene and taken to a local medical center.
Jackson reportedly told police that she and Pearce had recently ended a three-year relationship. Despite her efforts to block his number, Pearce allegedly continued to contact her via an alternate number, with text messages showing his persistence leading up to the incident. Jackson provided these messages to the police.
The Atlanta Falcons issued a statement acknowledging they were "gathering more information." Pearce, who had a notable rookie season, finishing third in AP NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year voting and setting a Falcons rookie record with 10½ sacks in 2025, now faces serious legal repercussions.
The question remains: At what point does a pursuit become an assault, and how should the actions of an individual, regardless of their public profile, be judged when they allegedly endanger others and law enforcement?
